Historic Trail Walk 2023:
Fort Battleford to Fort Pitt (August 9–18)
In 2023, we will walk from the site of Fort Battleford to Fort Pitt, SK, from August 9 to 18. This is the fifth trail walk that the SHFS has organized.
Walk Schedule
Fort Battleford – Fort Pitt: August 9-18, 2023
Aug. 8 – Pre-walk: visit Battleford sites on own in p.m.; evening tour of old Battleford site (Indian Res. Ind. School cemetery, Gov’t House). Camp at Kramer Campground (adjacent to Fort Battleford) or North Battleford motel; (Battlefords NW Historical Society hosts/guides)
Aug. 9 – walk 20 km; return to Battleford for night (campground/motel); 6 p.m. barbeque (Hist. Society hosts, small fee); visit Fred Light Museum or SK Baseball Hall of Fame or relax/visit
Aug. 10 - move vehicles to start; walk 20 km; pick up vehicles, drive to Delmas, camp at hall (washrooms) or Kramer camp. / N.B. motel; casual evening
Aug. 11 – walk to Bresaylor, 15 km; tour museum (English-Métis); move vehicles to Paynton, camp at Seniors Centre (w’rooms) or Maidstone motel / Atton’s Lake Park; free catered supper
Aug. 12 – walk 20 km.; return to Paynton (Maidstone / Atton’s Lake Reg. Park); evening visit to Poundmaker Interpretive Centre and Cutknife Hill battle site (Floyd Favel guide)
Aug. 13 – move vehicles to start point; walk 20 km; retrieve vehicles; o’night at Silver Lake Reg. Park; ev. nature viewing or visit Pine Island fur trade posts site
Aug. 14 – walk 20 km; return to Silver Lake; ev. tour to Shiloh Baptist Church (Afri.-Can. history)
Aug. 15 – move vehicles to start (Kenderdine homestead); walk 20 km; retrieve vehicles; o’night at Hillmond seniors centre (washrooms) (showers at rink) or Lloydminster motel; evening open
Aug. 16 – walk 20 kms; return to Hillmond (Lloydminster); casual evening (possible activity)
Aug. 17 – move vehicles; walk 20 km (lunch Fr. Butte Mus.); o’night Paradise Hill campgr. (wash. /showers) or Fr. Butte RV park (w’room); ev. tour Fr. Butte N. H. site or Imhoff paintings (P.Hill)
Aug 18 – move vehicles to start or shuttle from Fr. Butte; walk 10 km to Fort Pitt Nat. Hist. site /Prov. Park; tour as time permits; shuttles to Fr. Butte; home or extra night in Fr. Butte or P. Hill

Battleford - Kramer campground site map on Town website; book on own
Delmas - no need to book, fee to Hugh (Hwy noise ?); or B’ford, Maidstone, Atton’s Lake Park
Paynton - no need to book, fee to Hugh (Hwy noise ?); or Maidstone Motel, Atton’s Lake Park
Silver Lake Reg. Park - daily entry + camping fee; view plan on website; group areas reserved (contact Hugh if interested) or book own private site
Hillmond - no need to book, fee to Hugh
Paradise Hill - campground with washrooms, shower; no advance booking; see Town web-site
Frenchman Butte – camping in R.V. park; washrooms nearby; phone 780 872-3610 to reserve

The grey line is where the trail ran. We will be walking on the roads nearest the trail, as conditions permit.
Walkers will be shuttled to campsites or vehicles at the end of the day's walk.
